RECLEARING/CONTINGENCY PLANNING DURING THE FLIGHT

The Reclearing/Contingency Planning sub-menu within the Fuel and W&B menu (if available on your account) gives several options to allow extra fuel in the event of possible scenarios during the flight. The contents of the menu depend on the planning option selected in the first drop-down list.

Details

Reclearing In Flight (RIF) - allows a route to be planned where a revised destination can be used if it becomes necessary during the flight. This can help with planning and managing fuel reserves with greater flexibility, particularly for aircraft on long-haul flights. However, it is not an emergency procedure and you must still adhere to the normal rules about remaining fuel reserves after landing.

Reclear Waypoint

Enter a waypoint on the flight plan at which a decision on changing the destination will be made.

Destination 2

Enter the revised destination.

RIF Route

Enter the route to Destination 2 from the Reclear Waypoint.

Alternate 1 for Dest. 2

Select alternates to the revised destination exactly as for a normal flight plan.

Alternate 2 for Dest. 2

Reduced Contingency Fuel (RCF) - allows a smaller amount of contingency fuel to be carried for diversion to an alternate if this has been approved for your flight plans by the relevant authorities. This approval usually requires submission of evidence of enhanced weather forecasting and planning capabilities. You also need to define the reduced contingency fuel in the settings for your aircraft before you can apply this option.

RCF Enroute Alternate

Enter an alternate aerodrome inside the reduced contingency fuel circle that is displayed on the map.

RCF ERA Alternate

Optionally, enter a second alternate within the circle if required.

RCF ERA STAR

Select a standard approach route to the RCF alternate if required, or select Do Not Set.

Route to RCF ERA

Enter a route string to the alternate if required, or leave blank (in which case this will be populated as DCT).

Predetermined Point Procedure (PDP) - used to set a point in the flight where the pilot must decide whether to continue or divert to an alternate (usually because the aircraft has insufficient fuel aboard to reach the alternate from any point closer to the destination). This normally involves obtaining the latest forecasts and estimates of the status of the destination in order to decide whether a safe landing can be made.

Predetermined Point

Enter the point on the flight route for the pilot's decision to be made.

If you select Calculate Point of No Return then the predetermined point will be populated automatically with this location.

PDP Alternate

Optionally, enter an alternate aerodrome that could be used to divert the flight at the predetermined point.

STAR

Optionally, select a standard approach route to the PDP alternate if required, or select Do Not Set.

Route to PDP Alternate

Enter a route string to the alternate if required, or leave blank (in which case this will be populated as DCT).

Calculate Point of No Return

Select this option to display the location beyond which there is insufficient fuel aboard to return to the departure aerodrome, and select this as the predetermined point.
