USING THE iOS MOBILE APP

The FlightPlan iOS app, available from the App Store, gives you access to most of the flight planning functions of the web-based software on an iPad or iPhone.

Getting Started

  • Once you have installed the app on your device, log in using the same username and password as used in the web-based version of FlightPlan.
    The app will open at the Flights screen.
  • Tap  in the top left corner to view the main menu.
    Your account type is shown below your name and username. Click on these links to learn more about each menu option:
    New Flight
    Flights
    Map
    Airports
    Aircraft
    Mass & Balance
    Fuel Order
    Data
    Settings
  • Tap Shop at the top of the menu to view a range of membership categories, plates and charts available for purchase from RocketRoute.
  • The iOS app will synchronise with the web application at regular intervals, but you can force an update at any time by tapping  in the bottom left of the Flights screen.
  • In many screens, you can tap  in the top right to open a notepad layer on the screen where you can add notes or sketches (save these by tapping Done). Also tap this button to view previous notes saved to this layer. Tap  to delete the contents of the layer if required.
  • Tap GPS Logging to review logs of GPS activity for your flights (in relation to the NaviGuard feature). You can then choose whether to clear the log or add it to the documents of a specific flight.
  • Tap Sign Out to log out from the app.

Getting Help

  • To view the telephone numbers and email address for RocketRoute's support services, tap Support near the bottom of the menu.
  • Tap Manual to view this user's manual on the screen of your device.
    Tap the blue link iOS version in the second paragraph to move straight to the sections relating to the iOS app.
    Tap  to display the Contents pane or tap  to search the manual for specific terms.
    Tap the white arrows in the top right of the screen to display the pages viewed since the manual was last opened.
    Tap  in the top right of the screen to adjust the size of the text.

    Tap X in the top left of the screen to return to the app.
  • Tap Tutorials to display a menu of short video tutorials that you can view on your device to learn about specific features of the app. These are organised under a series of headings shown on the left of the screen; we recommend you begin with Tutorials at the bottom of the menu.
    When you select a tutorial from the menu, it will begin playing immediately.
    Tap the screen to display the video controls for several seconds.
    Tap the pause button in the centre of the screen to pause the playback, and then tap the play button to continue.
    Use the controls on either side of the pause/play button to move backwards or forwards in 10-second intervals.
    Tap  in the top left of the screen to switch to 'picture-in-picture' modeso you can continue to use the app while watching the video. Tap  to return to full screen mode.
    To adjust the playback speed, tap  in the bottom right of the screen, tap Playback Speed and select the required setting.
    Tap X in the top left of the screen to return to the tutorials menu.

  • Tap Feedback to submit information on bugs or recommendations for improvements to RocketRoute.
    Describe the issue or idea and attach any relevant images, then tap Submit.
    Alternatively, tap Contact Support at the bottom of the dialog to open an email to send more detailed feedback.

Downloading Data

The flight data used by the app (airways, NAT tracks, SIDs and STARs, etc.) needs to be downloaded when you first launch the app and then updated periodically.

  1. Tap Data in the main menu to view the data currently saved to the app, and the AIRAC cycle to which it applies. Data will be saved to your device up to two days in advance of the next AIRAC cycle.
    Data that is up to date is shown in green. Data that requires updating is shown in yellow.
  2. To update data, tap in the Data screen.
    The required files are downloaded.  indicates that the app's data is fully up to date. You can stop the update at any time by tapping the X icon.

Note: You can choose to automatically update your app's data when connected to wi-fi in the Settings screen.
